REMEMBERING 9/11

Celia and I were at our house in Cottage Grove on September 11, 2001 when one of my sisters called to tell me to turn on the TV.    She was upset, telling me we may never see each other again not knowing how many planes in the skies were being used as weapons that day.   After turning on the TV we were shocked by all the news and uncertainty.    How could this have happened?    The remainder of that day we were glued to the TV watching in horror.    Feeling patriotic, I remember talking to an Army recruiter about reenlisting, but he told me I was too old at the age of 56.

What do you remember?

  1. I was working from home for an international corporation... A friend here in Oregon called me and said turn on your TV! All I could think was were my New York co-workers safe!!! No one in my home base office in San Jose knew...it would not be until later in the day that we would know they were safe. Tragically one co-worker lost his brother.

  2. From your sister Ann
What sister called you that day?
I remember having taken my car in to have a hose repaired. When I turned on the news, at 8:45 am, I instantly knew those just weren't plane accidents. Two nights later, we had a service @ Zephyr Point Presbyterian Conference Center where I was working. For the next two months I wanted to surround myself with people and not be alone. Having read the bible that year, had given me strength.

  3. I just remember my sister sending a very short e-mail that said "The U.S. is under attack. Turn on your TV!"
