BROKE DOWN

The other day, while cutting tall grass with my DR mower the differential broke.   After spending half the day removing the axle, involving laying on the floor of the shed and voicing a few special words all I could find that broke was the cam differential lock in/out that somehow got bent.   (single piece shown above)   Have no idea why it was bent, one of those great mysteries of life.   A new one will cost me $21, plus some other parts that I found that need to be replaced after years of wear and tear.   The real fun will be putting it all back together.

  2. Oh no! I just hope there aren't any 'extra' parts left over :) As a physical therapist, I recall thinking how nice it would be to be able to replace body parts, like a new car fender after a fender bender. However, I then realized that cars are often declared 'totaled' while our bodies just keep on ticking along, even if a bit damaged and worn.

  3. You're a good mechanic, Mike. Wish me luck when I tackle our tall grass! I'm still waiting for several nice dry, sunny days in a row.

  4. Great job, Mike! It would be a flaming pile of melted metal by now if I had tried to repair it. Let me know if you need any help when you put it back together. I have an extensive vocabulary of special curses.
